Are you joining us in #SemptemberWhole30? September is full of resets for us. After a summer of staying up late, getting up late and relaxed days, we’re all back to school and back to routines. It’s a perfect time to reset our eating habits at the same time we reset our clocks. I’ve spent the last part of August researching new Whole30 recipes for back to school and coming up with some of my own like this Apple Cherry Paleo Granola which is gluten free and grain free.

I debated about what to call this recipe: Un-granola. Semi-granola (get it). But I decided to go with Paleo granola because technically, cereal is not Whole30. Nut and dried fruit consumption is supposed to be limited, so I save this little gem for my “second breakfast” at school after I have done my Friday morning swim. It’s an easy on-the-go protein packed supplement to the hard boiled eggs which I have before I leave the house at 4:30 AM (only on Fridays my friends, only on Fridays).
The Un-granola
This Apple Cherry Paleo Granola is super easy and super quick to make. It’s also super chewy which makes it really satisfying to eat. You don’t need any special equipment: just a measuring cup and a bowl.
It’s just unsweetened flaked coconut and sliced raw almonds which give the allusion of grain. Then add some unsweetened dried cherries and unsweetened dried apples. I buy organic to make sure that the dried fruit doesn’t have any additives like sugar. Be sure to read the ingredients. The apples that I buy are in the form of rings. So I used a pair of kitchen scissors to cut them down into pieces the are about the size of the cherries. Or maybe you can buy them diced? I hope you can, then it will take the prep time down to all of 3 minutes!
Stir it up and put it into a sealed container for storage. Keep in a cool dry place for up to 6 weeks.
Eating Semi-granola
There are two ways to eat Apple Cherry Paleo Granola. You can eat it cold with your favorite compliant milk. I use Unsweetened Almond. You can also eat it hot which is delicious and easy. Put half a cup of cereal in a microwave safe dish. Add a quarter cup of your favorite milk and then heat for 1 minute. It softens up the coconut and almonds which gives your chewer a bit of a break!
