Today is the first day of sharing 25 Days of Christmas activities to do with your family. The December Daily scrapbook is the brain child of Ali Edwards. She is one of the scrapbook gurus I have been following since her days writing for the now defunct Creating Keepsakes Magazine. The idea is to document the month of December and the holiday preparations. I have done this for the 5 out of the last 6 years. And at Christmas time, we put those scrapbooks out on the coffee table as part of our holiday decor. My kids love to go through them and look at Christmases past.
Making the December Daily Scrapbook work for the Working Mom
The first year that I completed the December Daily Scrapbook (2011), I was home on maternity leave with The Boy. He was born in late November and I had actually been home on rest since early September. So, I had the opportunity to prepare the book before he was born. And because I was home, I could keep up on the daily journaling. However, the following year, though I prepared a book, I just couldn’t get it done with the demands of working full time, two little kids and Christmas activities.

In 2013, I decided the only way I could get the December Daily Scrapbook done would be to do it electronically. I started making photo books through Shutterfly (affiliate link). Still, I get things set up ahead of time. I start the book, choose the theme, choose a cover layout and a first page layout. Truthfully, I don’t worry about having a page for each day. Instead, I focus on the traditions and events that make December different from other months. And sometimes that meas I end up with a two page spread. And sometimes that means a day doesn’t even get a mention. Our December Daily Scrapbook is always the 8×11 size. I only use that size for these books which also sets them apart from our other scrapbooks and photo books.
Throughout the month, I try to keep up on layouts, but I really take advantage of the break between Christmas and New Years to finish it up. I often give the completed book to my husband for Valentines Day. In really ambitious years, I have it shipped before New Years and we enjoy it the first week of January.
