Friends, I am really excited to release another free embroidery pattern.  This one is a Christmas embroidery pattern called “Joy.” It is a super quick and a super easy pattern which can be hung on a wall or made into an ornament for your Christmas tree.

And, one of the things that I love about Christmas is decorating.  Of course, decorating with the handmade and home spun totally fits the bill.  Our kitchen wall changes with the seasons. And, it is filled with a quilted Advent calendar and several Crabapple Hill Studios Christmas Patterns.  One of our walls in donned with a Christmas tree quilt and our stocking hung by the chimney with care are of course, handmade.  So, it is perfect to be able to add my own Christmas embroidery pattern to the kitchen wall this year.

I hope you enjoy this cute, but quick little Christmas embroidery pattern of “Joy” to celebrate the Christmas holiday season. Just a few colors of Cosmo floss:  red, gold and gray to make  the perfect holiday hanging.  It can be done in an afternoon and then framed in a wood embroidery hoop before nightfall.

Give Thanks Embroidery Pattern

Autumn is my favorite time of year. As a teacher, I look forward to the start of a new year. Halloween is great. We love to trick-or-treat and carve pumpkins. And Thanksgiving. A holiday dedicated to food and gratefulness. Sometimes, however, Thanksgiving gets short shrift in the decoration department which is why I created my Give Thanks Embroidery Pattern.

Another reason I love autumn is that I love pumpkins.  I love to eat them.  They make great decorations.  And, I have recently learned that I love to draw them. So here is my second endeavor at an embroidery pattern.  Like Pumpkin Boo, this is another free pattern.

Give Thanks Embroidery Pattern can easily be finished in an afternoon.  It is just a few colors of floss and back stitch.  Trace it and stitch and done.  Frame it in a six inch wood embroidery hoop and you can have it hanging on the wall today.

Pumpkin Boo Embroidery Pattern

Those of you who follow my little blog here, know that I love to embroider.  I know how to do all sorts of other Close to Home Crafts.  Quilt–check.  Paper crafts–check.  Crochet–check.  Scrapbook–check.  Knit–well, no, but not for lack of some trying.  Embroidery is just IT right now.  It’s so transportable.  And, as Meg Hawkey pointed out in a recent Better Homes and Gardens American Patchwork & Quilting Magazine article:  “It’s gentle and quiet, and you don’t have to count or keep track of stitches.” (December 2017)  I had never really put a finger on it, but that’s it.  That is why I embroider.  And so, in the back of my mind, just like this blog, I’ve wanted to write my own patterns.  Enter Pumpkin Boo.

We all have excuses when we are afraid to put ourselves out there.  But, just like starting The Semiconservative Granola Girl, my husband has encouraged me.  “Why can’t you?”  He has said to me on a number occasions.

“I can’t draw.”

“Everybody can draw.”

I started with doodles.  Pumpkins look pretty easy.  I doodled some and then it happened.  So for you, a free pattern:  Pumpkin Boo.

The only thing that I purchased new to complete this project was the 5 inch diameter wood hoop to frame it in.  It took me just an afternoon to complete the project start to framed finish.  Which is awesome because we have a kitchen wall that I change seasonally with little quilted and embroidered projects.  So Pumpkin Boo was completed just in time for the days of October.

I used fabric left over from another project.  In fact, I also used Cosmo Floss that I had on hand.  And, I traced it with a Project Life Journaling Pen .  I finished it using my Quick Embroidery Hoop Frame Method
