Today is day 14 of 25 Christmas Activities to do with Your Family. Decorating is something the whole family can get involved in. And, it is something my kids really get into. In fact, I think that it is important to decorate together. It’s part of the fun and family together time.
Decorate Together
On Day Ten, we talked about going out to cut your own tree. Of course, the kids love trekking across a snow laden field to cut the perfect tree. But, they also really enjoy putting the lights and ornaments on said tree. As a result, we decorate together beginning the day after Thanksgiving.
Sometime during the weekend after Thanksgiving (I always feel a little sorry for the Thanksgiving decorations–they really get short shrift.), we take down our turkeys and Give Thanks decorations. We start with the quilted and embroidered decorations like Joy. And then slowly, we start to add decorations. On December 1, we add Advent Calendars. We get out the Christmas Books and Snowflake starts hanging around. And the kids help us to decorate together.
Once we get the tree, we decorate it together too. The tree often ends up with lopsided decorations, a lot more on the bottom and in the front. But how can you resist watching children hang those ornaments and help by hanging the stockings by the chimney with care.
