Today is day 20 of the 25 days of Christmas Activities to Do with Your Family. Seems hard to believe that there are 19 days of activities already done and we are just 10 days shy of the big day. And, we’re only just now getting to watching Christmas specials. Just like our Christmas toys, our Christmas DVDs Go into storage for most of the year. So, it’s a big deal when our Christmas Specials come out for the viewing.
Because we put these DVDs away, they are new each year. It’s so fun to return to our old favorites year after year.
Watch Christmas Specials
We have so many great favorites but here in just a couple.
Ummm…. Charlie Brown. Christmas tree. True spirit of the season. Need I say more.
Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas.
This was one of my Grandmother’s favorites and therefore it became one of mine. We used to watch it on Christmas afternoon after all the presents were opened and there was a lull before Christmas dinner. It is a story much like O Henry’s “The Gift of the Magi.” A beautiful tale of selfless giving with the charm of Jim Hensen’s Muppets. And apparently, this year is the 40 anniversary.
The Miser Brother’s Christmas.
I don’t remember this one from when I was a kid, but it is in the same claymation genre as Rudolf and Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Heat Miser and Cold Miser are brothers at battle over their respective weather territories. Their battle interferes with Santa’s deliveries and their punishment from their mother, Mother Nature, is to help Santa deliver the gifts. And, of course, differences are resolved in the process.
Prep and Landing.
The Prep and Landing teams are Santa’s elves who go out to make sure that the locations are secure (ie. not a mouse stirring) before the Big Guy comes to make his deliveries. Oh, the mishaps that can happen when elves meet some unexpected challenges. Sunshine and I watched the together (Okay, she was six month old. I watched it and she was in the room.) the first time it aired on broadcast TV and I knew immediately we would have to own it. So cute, so clever, so charming.
How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
The Grinch in all is grinchy original animated style. Who can resist a Scrooge-like green fella’ whose heart grows three sizes from his new found understanding of Christmas?
Of course, there are so many, many great Christmas Specials out there, but these are just the highlights in our little part of the world.
